Understanding diversity by linking ecomechanics and functional traits across time and space

In early 2019, I participated in an NSF-funded working group aimed at understanding how the rules of life impact biodiversity. A team of 24 researchers from a wide swathe of biological fields and career stages met in Portland to discuss life, the universe, and everything. My role in the project involved bringing in an understanding of developmental timescales to the table, and developing a pipeline for how to standardize functional trait data collection and analysis. The multiple co-authored paper resulting from that meeting was recently published in Trends in Ecology & Evolution.

My writing was featured in the SICB Student Journalism Program!

Ahead of the 2017 meeting for the Society for Integrative & Comparative Biology, I applied for and was awarded a SICB student journalist subsidy. This award helped fund my trip to the annual meeting, and required me to write a short press release about one of the talks I attended. I wrote about Dr. Morehouse's research into the intricacies of jumping spider vision. Find the full article here.
